youth conference.

I have the privilege of serving the youth in our ward... mainly the Young Women. It is the best calling in the church in my opinion. Getting to be a part of these kids lives is very humbling. They teach me so much. I was able to chaperone at Youth Conference this past weekend. What an incredible event! The Stake leaders did such a good job balancing the fun with the spiritual.
The first night I attended we went to a fireside inside the Kirtland Temple. Patriarch Karl Anderson spoke to us. He introduced the theme for the conference, "Go to the Ohio". The theme wasn't to be taken literally... we were all in Ohio already. It was meant to mean, sacrifice. Do all that the Lord asks of you. If he commands you to stay in Ohio for the rest of your days, then do it. And love it. The theme really spoke to my soul.

There were dances... oh how I don't miss stake dances growing up! The kids seemed to have a lot of fun and I was pleasantly surprised with how many of them actually danced! I was able to meet and get to know several members of the stake while hanging out on the sidelines. It will be nice to see more familiar faces at stake events from now on.

One of the highlights for me was when we went to the sites in Kirtland late at night. We met in the schoolhouse to sing some hymns, were split into smaller groups and were led around the sites by people dressed up like the 1830's Saints. Throughout the sites, we learned from Parley Pratt, Newel K. Whitney, Joseph and Emma Smith, and Eliza Snow. They shared their stories and we felt the spirit. It was an incredible night. It made me realize how blessed I am to live here. I get to go to church in Kirtland every single week. My family and I are modern day pioneers... here because the Lord called us to be here. It is truly a privilege to do His work. There were games played, service projects done, and an incredible speaker on the last day. Brother Facione was the most intriguing youth speaker I have ever heard. His story is one that will shock and amaze you. Get your hands on a copy of his book so you can hear it.
I came away from the conference with a greater love for our youth. They are just so good. I grew up in my little Provo, Utah bubble and I loved it. I can't even imagine going to school out here. Being the only member in my High School. Having to stand for what I believe in on a daily basis. These kids are so strong. They have such amazing spirits and I learn so much from them every chance I get to spend with them. I am truly grateful for my calling in Young Women's.
