day in the life.

I documented two of my days last week. One was very busy, one was very low-key. Contrary to what people may believe... I do not spend all of my time sewing, or crafting, or reading my scriptures and playing with my children. I am very normal... and live a rather dull, boring life. I wouldn't trade it for the world! Here you go, Liz... a day (or two) in the life of me...
Busy Day
  • Woke up at 7:05 am. Jeremy is feeding the kids breakfast.
  • Check e-mail/family blogs/facebook (It's my morning coffee... I have to start my day with it)
  • 7:20-- Jeremy leaves. I get all of the kids dressed and ready to head out the door.
  • 8:10-- Load everyone into the van to get them to school. Realize that I am still in my pajamas.... grab and rubberband for my hair and a hoodie to put over my pj's. Eat a yogurt smoothie and a banana on the road.
  • 8:30-- Drop Graham off at pre-school
  • 8:47-- Drop Lincoln and Grace off at the Elementary school
  • 8:50-- Arrive back home. Jayne watches Mickey Mouse. I feed Peter and get him down for his morning nap.
  • 9:15-- Take a shower, get dressed for the day.
  • 9:40-- Put away all the laundry that we folded the night before (all 11 loads! a new record)
  • 9:55-- Rush out the door to try to squeeze in a few errands before picking Graham up. Peter sleeps through most of them.
  • 10:15-- Arrive at JoAnn's. Try to find some clear plastic containers, settle for little baskets instead.
  • 10:25-- Race across the parking lot to Target. Go in for diapers, come out with diapers and a few new shirts for Peter (their clearance racks always suck me in.)
  • 11:00-- pick up Graham from pre-school.
  • 11:15-- Make menu/grocery list in the parking lot of the grocery store.
  • 11:25-- Grocery shopping. Chase Jayne through the store a few times when she escapes from her spot in the cart. Peter wakes up.
  • 12:25-- Home from the store. Feed Graham and Jayne lunch. Feed Peter, place him in his swing.
  • 12:45-- Put the groceries away. Eat my lunch. Check e-mail/family blogs/facebook.
  • 1:10-- rock Peter to sleep for a hopeful 2 hour nap.
  • 1:30-- Jayne goes down for her nap. Graham watches Tinkerbell (he's cool like that)
  • 1:40-- Put together new snack baskets while watching Undercover Boss (great show)
  • 2:50-- wake up Jayne and Peter to pick up Lincoln, Grace and Brooklynn.
  • 3:30-- home. Homework and chill time with the kids.
  • 4:00-- Feed Peter, rock him to sleep.
  • 4:10-- start dinner... Peter wakes up and wants to be held. Hold him for a minute then bring his bouncer into the kitchen so he can still see me.
  • 4:45-- Brooklynn gets picked up by her Grandma.
  • 5:00-- Missionaries pick up their dinner, french bread pizza (they can't eat with us since Jeremy isn't home yet)
  • 5:15-- Help the kids straighten up the house in preparation for dinner.
  • 5:25-- Eat dinner with the kids.
  • 5:40-- Clean up dinner. More chill time with the kids. We watch Outrageous Kid Parties together and have a conversation about how to not act like those kids on the show.
  • 6:00-- I fall asleep in my chair, rocking Peter.... the kids play in their rooms or on the computer.
  • 6:30-- I wake up and realize that I fell asleep... check to make sure all the kids are safe and well. They are. Lay Peter down.
  • 6:40-- Start the bedtime routine. Pajamas on, straighten rooms, set out clothes for tomorrow.
  • 7:00-- Family scriptures and prayers.
  • 7:15-- Snack, brush teeth.
  • 7:30-- snuggles and stories in bed.
  • 8:00-- lights out. Peter wakes up.
  • 8:10-- Snuggle time with Peter, feed and rock him back to sleep for the night. I read my scriptures while I do this.
  • 9:00-- lay Peter down, watch Secret Millionaire (a new favorite). Eat an apple and string cheese (my favorite late night snack).
  • 10:00-- check e-mail/family websites/facebook
  • 10:10-- read Fablehaven in bed until Jeremy comes home.
  • 10:25-- Jeremy comes home from a long day of root canals and studying. We chat for a litle bit until I fall asleep.

Quiet Day

  • 7:30-- wake up when Jeremy tells me he's leaving. The kids are mostly fed and dressed.
  • 7:35-- Check e-mail/family websites/facebook
  • 7:45-- Help Jayne and Peter get dressed.
  • 8:10-- Everyone to the car.
  • 8:30-- Drop off Graham.
  • 8:45-- Drop off Lincoln and Gracie
  • 8:50-- home. Feed Peter and rock him to sleep for his morning nap.
  • 9:00-- Do step aerobics with Jayne.
  • 10:00-- shower and get dressed for the day. Jayne watches Bubble Guppies.
  • 10:45-- Leave to pick-up Graham.
  • 11:00-- Pick up Graham.
  • 11:15-- home. Eat lunch together.
  • 11:30-- Jayne and Graham play make-believe in the girls room. I give Peter a bath because he just had a major blow-out.
  • 12:15-- Jayne goes down for her nap. I feed Peter and rock him to sleep for his afternoon nap.
  • 12:30-- I do a puzzle with Graham and talk about his day.
  • 12:45-- Graham and I go up in the attic. I work on aprons for Gracie's birthday party, he builds a city with the Little People toys we keep up there. We talk to each other while we work.
  • 2:45-- I wake up Jayne and Peter and we all get in the car and go pick up Lincoln and Grace.
  • 3:25-- Home from Elementary pick-up. Homework and chill time with the kids. I feed Peter and put him in his bouncer.
  • 4:00-- Start dinner. Fettuccine Alfredo with pesto grilled chicken, broccoli and bread. Get interrupted about a million times by the kids. But manage to get dinner cooked.
  • 5:15-- The kids help set the table and straighten the house.
  • 5:30-- Jeremy comes home! We eat dinner as a family.
  • 5:50-- Jeremy clears the table while I lay on the couch and have some Peter time.
  • 6:00-- Everyone is doing their own things around the house. The kids are playing, Jeremy is playing guitar in the basement, I am watching Oprah.
  • 6:45-- start bedtime routine. Kids in jammas. Clean their rooms. Set out clothes for tomorrow.
  • 7:15-- Family prayer, scriptures.
  • 7:30-- Daddy games, snack, brush the teeth.
  • 7:50-- Jeremy gets the oldest four to bed, I feed Peter and rock him to sleep.
  • 8:15--Lights out for kids. Jeremy and I read scriptures together.
  • 8:30-- I watch The Biggest Loser while Jeremy plays a game on the computer.
  • 10:00-- Peter wakes up. I give him to Jeremy and head to bed. Read for a little bit until Jeremy comes to bed.
  • 10:30-- We talk in bed until I fall asleep.

***My carpooling buddy was gone this week so we spent more time than normal taking kids to and from school. I normally do either Pre-school driving or Elementary driving. Other than that... this is totally normal for my typical busy/quiet days.

I read this post this morning and it gave me some courage for when I have this baby. I don't know how you do it all. I've had some anxiety about having a newborn. I LOVE newborns but they're also a lot of work. You always look so put together and great. If you can do it with five little ones, I can surely do it with three! Right?! I don't think I'll ever enjoy all of the laundry that comes with motherhood, but at least we can do it with automatic washers (my grandma had ten kids and did all of the laundry by a ringer washer). Anyway, the exercise class turned out to be a lot of fun. After the baby comes, I'll do another one sometime for fun! Well, this is already a novel, but I read your other posts too. Happy 30th. Those were some fun questions. You're great, Rochelle! Thanks for your good example.

Chelle, that is a lot to do!

About me -

I have only two boys but they are very active. Plus I work at 5 jobs flexitime (as a university lecturer). When boys are in bed I start preparing for teaching lessons next day until 12 am or even later.
