road trip.

We decided that we needed to see some cousins and get out of Cleveland for a few days so we hopped in the car and drove to Georgia for Easter weekend! The car ride wasn't too bad. I think I loathe road trips more than the kids do. We left at 5am and arrived at my sisters around dinner time. Not too shabby! I got a few prizes for the kids to keep them entertained for the long drive. One of them was little fans (the a/c is broken in our van... we'll be getting that fixed before we drive to Utah next month). Jayne got hers stuck in her hair three different times!
Jeremy is incredible and drove the entire time both to and from. I am a wimp and can't drive for more than an hour on road trips. I get too tired. We were going to see if I could go longer on this trip, but we wanted to get home faster and knew that wouldn't happen if I were driving!

Millie and Maddie were the first cousins to meet Peter! Millie loves babies. She told me that several times when we were there. She was SO good with him. I was very impressed!
We opted to keep the kids in separate rooms for bedtime rather than do a big cousin sleepover. These kids love each other so much... there is no way they would have gone to sleep at night!
My kids fell in love with their backyard. It's just like a metropark with tons of trees and places to explore (Jeremy's dream!) They found a fun rope swing at the top of the hill and spent lots of time swinging each day.I seriously wish we lived closer to these guys. Our kids are so close in age and they get along so well. Missie and I were pregnant together with Lincoln and Millie, due about a month apart. She ended up having Millie at 26 weeks which makes them about 4 months apart. We were pregnant together again with Grace and Maddie and they are three days apart. They truly are little kindred spirits. I had so much fun watching them play together.Jeremy had a blast hanging out with Justin. We used to go to their little house in American Fork to watch movies or play games with them quite a bit. Jeremy remembers many game nights with Justin in that same house. They are great friends. I wish I would have gotten a picture with Missie. We have always been close... but this trip we seemed to bond more than we ever have before. I love her so much.We did a lot of really fun things while we were there and I took loads of pictures. You'll see them over the next few days. The ride home felt a little longer than the ride there since we left at 9am instead of 5am. It did teach us that we need to leave early on our trips because the kids were so done being in the car when we had about 2 hours left to drive. We really can't complain too much though... they were all really good. The prizes seemed to help... On our last night there Lincoln was doing a cool trick on the top bunkbed and fell and smashed his face. He lost one of his front teeth shortly after and now the other one is loose! I love the change that occurs when your kids lose their front teeth. He looks so adorable with teeth missing. I love it! (He's such a spazz... I told him to smile nice for the picture... crazy man.)
This little guy was a dream the entire trip. This was kind of a test to see how well he'll do on our 26 hour drive to Utah. I don't think we have anything to worry about! He was perfectly happy and content hanging out with the kids as long as he was fed. Lincoln sat next to him and took very good care of him.I am curious what you bring in the car for your kids on road trips... I'm a little nervous about taking another road trip so soon. I don't want to do cheap prizes like we did this time (almost all of them ended up in the trash). But, we have to stay within a pretty tight budget as well. We'll be visiting the library to pick up some movies they haven't seen before to watch on the way, and I'm hoping to borrow some handheld game systems for the day we drive the farthest. We might buy each of them a new toy... we're still trying to decide what to do.

Any awesome road trip secrets to success for me?
